“Female lecturer ratio increased by 50 percent in 30 years”

According to new data released by the European Statistics Office, in Turkey proportion of women operating in the field of research, technology, health, engineering and science R&D has been announced as 45 percent. Turkey going above the EU average of 41 percent, left Germany, France, and the UK behind.

Stating that today the ratio of the academic staff of women is 45 percent IGU General Secretary Asst. Prof. Dr. Serdar Çöp said: “In the last 30 years there has been an increase of about 50 percent. This increase in Turkey, also above average compared to other European countries. More than 520 women work as the academic and administrative staff of Istanbul Gelisim University. Positive discrimination against women is one of our important policies. The impact of Industry 4.0 in the coming years, the number of female employees with innovative studies will gradually increase”.

Indicating that women are more involved in the workforce as the level of education increases, Çöp added: “According to the results of TURKSTAT work titled as “Statistics on Women 2018”, female labor force participation rate of women with tertiary education seems to be 72.7 percent. Also, the gender equality index has been steadily improving in favor of female students since last 10 years.”
