Advice for university candidates: Choose the profession that will make you happy for life

The university exam marathon, which lasted for two days, is over. Candidates are now waiting for the YKS results to be announced on August 4. Making suggestions to the candidates for the next period, Counseling Specialist Elif Aluç Gülşen stated that the departments should be started to be researched. Gülşen said, “Candidates should invest in themselves and choose the departments that are suitable for them. They should do the jobs that will make them happy for the rest of their lives.”

Stating that university promotions will be carried out online due to the coronavirus epidemic, from Istanbul Gelisim University Guidance Specialist Elif Aluç Gülşen said, “Candidate students can communicate with the lecturers of the departments they are interested in during the promotional days broadcast live on the social media accounts of the universities.”

Gülşen said, “With the promotion days of the universities, information is given about the departments of the universities, foreign language opportunities, accommodation and scholarship opportunities, social, cultural, sports activities, life on campus and academics.”                                                  

“PREFER WHAT SUITS YOU BEST”

Stating that the candidates usually approach to this preference by asking "Which departments will be the most advantageous?", Gülşen said, "Ideas such as choosing the department that currently has job opportunities are not correct in the long run. A profession that is popular for a few years may lose its popularity after a few years. Candidates should invest in themselves and choose the departments that suit them. They should do the jobs that will make them happy for the rest of their lives.”

“WIDE RANGE OF CHOICES IS BETTER”

Emphasizing that the candidates should make a wide range of choices since they have the right of 24 choices, Gülşen said, “Candidates need to evaluate the first 5 choices well when creating their preference lists. It is useful to contact universities as much as possible to get information about the possibilities of universities and to get support from experts if they do not have experience of choice.”
