Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Education Support Coordinatorship established a library in Şehit Erdoğan Erişik Primary School in Aşağısevindikli Village.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Education Support Coordinatorship continues to produce projects to ensure quality education in regions where access to educational opportunities is limited with the vision of supporting Qualified Education, which is one of the 17 Global Goals determined by the United Nations.
In order to determine a village school away from the center and with limited opportunities, Istanbul Gelisim University established a library in the village school with the guidance of Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of National Education, Tekirdağ Province, Muratlı District, Aşağısevindikli Village Şehit Erdoğan Erişik Primary School Principal Arzu Kara.
IGU Education Support Coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslıhan Güzin Selçuk, talking about the project, said: “We have enjoyed providing all the decoration details of the library such as books, shelves and cupboards, study areas and curtains. On the opening day of the library, we gave various trainings to students, teachers and parents. We have carried out various practices on climate, global warming, wastes and a sustainable world within the scope of “Sustainability” training with the students of Istanbul Gelisim University for all grades from 1st to 8th grades.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) the School of Health Sciences the Department of Child Development Lect. Buse Kerigan provided a training for “Basic Education in the Pre-School Period” to the parents, and Istanbul Gelisim University Research Support Coordinator Melike Çetin also provided a training for “Grants for Projects” to the teachers. After the trainings, the students of Istanbul Gelisim University Music Club made a mini concert and revived the opening.
5th grade student Nilay Aksoy, stating that she wants to be a doctor in the opening speech, said: “I believe that our library will be very useful to us. People should love to read. I would like to thank Istanbul Gelisim University.”
Principal Arzu Kara, stating that she has been working at Aşağısevindikli Village Şehit Erdoğan Erişik Primary School for only 3 months, said: “The day I started my first assignment, our Turkish teacher came to me and told me about the desire to create a library in our school. So I promised my teacher friend. Afterwards, our paths crossed with Istanbul Gelisim University. We have set up our library and now we have 1500 books and I think the number will increase. There's no way to explain my happiness.”
Project was accomplished with the contributions of IGU Chairman of the Board of Trustees Abdulkadir Gayretli and his wife Şule Gayretli, IGU Rector Prof. Dr. Burhan Aykaç and Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Nail Öztaş and Prof. Dr. Nuri Kuruoğlu, Director of School of Health Sciences Asst. Prof. Dr. A. Yüksel Barut.
