The gymnasium of her university is named after Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı, who won the gold medal in the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championship. Onbaşı said, “The fact that my name is written in the hall where I sweat and that I will always see it will give me an extra motivation. I am very happy.”

Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı, who won the gold medal at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championship held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, was welcomed at Istanbul Gelisim University, where she studies. Her name was given to the gymnasium where Onbaşı was training and sweating. Reflecting her excitement with somersaults at the Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı Gymnastics Hall of Istanbul Gelisim University, which is named after her, Onbaşı said, “It was one of our biggest goals to go to a sister country and have the National Anthem sung. This gold medal received in the senior category is a first in the history of the Republic. Achieving such a success is a happy and proud event both for me and for my family, my coach and those who support me. I am very honored to have my name given to it. It made me very happy to have such a beautiful formation at the university I attended, and it’s such a beautiful move.”

Sharing the feelings the moment she won the gold medal, Onbaşı said, “It was one of our biggest goals to go to a sister country and have the National Anthem sung. This gold medal received in the senior category is a first in the history of the Republic. And I won this in my first year in the senior category. Achieving such a success is a happy and proud event both for me and for my family, my coach and those who support me. We are very happy to prove the power of Turkish women to the whole world in Azerbaijan, too”

Onbaşı expressed her happiness that her name was given to the gymnasium with these words:
“I am very honored. It made me very happy to have such a beautiful formation at the university I attended, it’s such a beautiful move. Thank you very much everyone. Writing my own name in the gymnasium where I sweat and seeing it all the time will give me an extra motivation. I am so happy."

ANNOUNCED THE SECRET OF SUCCESS

Emphasizing that in order to achieve success in every job, it is necessary to both work hard and love what we do in this sense, Onbaşı said, “In order to achieve success, we must not give up and this is what we do. Gymnastics is a very ungrateful branch, so to speak. When we stop training one day, it puts us back 3 days. That's why we need to go to training regularly and continuously. When we can not go, we try to complete our training in any place. It requires persistence, perseverance and ambition, and talent. You need to love this job, these are my secrets to achieve success.”

“WE WANT IT TO BE A SOURCE OF MOTIVATION FOR OUR STUDENTS”

Abdülkadir Gayretli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Gelisim University, pointed out that he is happy with the pride his students make everyone feel.
Gayretli said, “We named the hall Ayşe Begüm Onbaşı in order for our students to follow Ayşe’s lead and always remember her. It's a good feeling for us, too. We want our students to be idealistic, successful and active like Ayşe.”

Stating that the students studying at the Istanbul Gelisim University have achieved national and international successes, Gayretli said, “We want all of our students to wave the Turkish flag in our country and in the world. This is a good thing for us. Our goal is to train active and successful athletes. This means that, in accordance with the protocol we have signed with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, we want to contribute to the students’ success, create opportunities, and take them by the hand and help them achieve success in the world Olympics.”
