University promotions moved to digital media: helps to focus on the exam
Universities have started to make their promotion days both face to face and online. Speaking about the promotional days taking place in digital environment, Guidance Expert Elif Aluç Gülşen said that the promotions will help to focus on the exam.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, university promotions have also held online this year. After the date of Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) was updated as June 27-28, 2020, universities have started preparations for prospective students. Speaking about the "Online Promotion Days" held at Istanbul Gelisim University every day at 16:00, Guidance Specialist Elif Aluç Gülşen said: “Changing the exam date caused some students to be distracted. The promotion days are actually part of the process of focusing on the exam.” Vice Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Nail Öztaş, on the other hand, pointed out that students who will prefer university and departments should apply to reliable sources.
RESPONSE TO ANY QUESTION INSTANTLY
Stating that there is a serious digital transformation, Prof. Dr. Nail Öztaş said: “We are now in a period where the answer to every question is desired and expected, where everything is presented in the transparency. We have prepared 2 content for this. We follow 2 different ways. The first one is non-interactive documents, the documents and so on, and the second one is livestream every day on a weekly basis.”
STUDENTS MUST APPLY TO RELIABLE RESOURCES WHEN MAKING PREFERENCES
Saying “There are a number of reliable resources that students who will make preference for university should definitely apply.”, Öztaş spoke: “We will do shopping and we can decide based on the comments of people we do not know on the site. This is not healthy and rational. My advice to students and their parents should look at the outcomes of the programs, the outcomes of the department, that is, the learning outcomes. The campus, program, course and classroom limits of the universities of the future are completely removed, have completely been changing, so they will be replaced by student’s gains. Diplomas and transcripts will take on a very different format in the very near future. It is necessary to look at what a university's program is committed to providing to the student who will prefer the course. It is necessary to look at the ranking; it is necessary to look at the accreditation documents.”
SAVING FROM TIME
Stating that it is a different feeling to go and see the place in the university preference, Prof. Dr. Öztaş said: “They definitely have positive or negative effects on you when getting to the university atmosphere, meeting with a teacher face to face. The promotion and preferences in digital media also have an advantage: Now you can use the time you spend to go from one campus to another campus in a place like Istanbul, to see laboratories, workshops, and classrooms of that university, even in digital media. You are a person who is at peace with the digital world, this can get much faster.”
OUR AIM IS TO GIVE THE INFORMATION TO THE STUDENT IN THE BEST WAY
Stating that students have the opportunity to visit many universities during the day with this system, Elif Aluç Gülşen reminded that approximately 800 thousand students transfer to other universities every year.
Gülşen articulated: “Students transferring may not like the department they go to, the university. So they are going to make a change on this. Our aim here is to provide the student with the best information and to try to eliminate these kind of preference mistakes. Since it is a digital indexed generation, it can actually affect them even more.”
STUDENTS WILL RECOGNIZE THEIR LECTURERS
Guidance Specialist Gülşen talked on the lives streaming at 16.00 every day as follows: “Our academics will talk about their departments. There will be a different department every day, so there will be faculty deans and school principals in the programs. Students will also have the opportunity to see the lecturers one to one. They can also ask their questions during the live broadcast.”
PROMOTIONS ARE A PART OF THE EXAM FOCUSING PROCESS
Saying there is distraction with the changes experienced in students, Gülşen spoke: “The promotion days are actually a part of the process of focusing on the exam. As they get to know the departments, they can focus more to the exam. This is a very good opportunity for students who have been focusing on their studies recently, trying to clarify their dreams and goals. If there is a department that s/he does not want, s/he eliminates it, if s/he encounters a new department, s/he gets information on it and s/he focuses more, which causes her/him to study more. It allows her/him to focus more on her/his target.”
