GreenMetric 2023 success from IGU, which stands out with its sustainability studies!
The list of “GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023” has been announced. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), which was included in the GreenMetric ranking for the first time last year, was ranked 14th in the list of Turkish foundation universities in the GreenMetric 2023 list this year. IGU, which attracts attention with its important studies in the field of environmental sustainability, proved its success once again.
The list of "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2023", which was established in Indonesia in 2010 and works on green campus and environmental sustainability, was announced. Aiming to create a global awareness about environmental awareness, GreenMetric evaluates the sustainability studies of universities, including campus settlement and infrastructure, energy and climate change, wastes, water resources, transportation, education and research, according to 6 criteria. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), which was included in the GreenMetric ranking for the first time last year, increased its score by 935 points in 2023 and ranked 674th in the world with a total score of 5635. Istanbul Gelisim University, one of the most preferred foundation universities in Turkey, stood out among the foundation universities in the GreenMetric 2023 ranking, while ranking 58th among all universities by jumping 7 places in the Turkey ranking in the total score, where 6 criteria were taken into account. IGU ranked 14th among the foundation universities, rising 23 places from 37th place.
IGU, which stands out with its sustainability studies, achieved a significant success in the "Energy and Climate Change" category by being ranked 21st in Turkey.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), which attaches importance to sustainability studies in all areas, especially environmental sustainability, by adopting the "Sustainable Development Goals", carries out practices for the effective use of natural resources and proceeds with a universal sense of responsibility within the scope of energy and waste management. IGU, which has accelerated its green campus studies by using 100% green energy since 2022, has once again proven its success by ranking 21st in the "Energy and Climate Change" category in the ranking of Turkish universities. Stating that IGU is a university that directs its projects with its sustainability awareness and practices as well as progressing with the vision of "Research University", IGU Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin, "First of all, our university, which was in the GreenMetric ranking last year, rose rapidly in all categories compared to the previous year. We provide a significant added value by moving forward with responsible production and consumption awareness and creating our works on the axis of climate and sustainability. With our national and international studies and achievements in the field of sustainability, we move forward with a sense of responsibility for the planet we live on. With our sensitivity and active work in this regard, we were also entitled to receive a "Zero Waste Certificate" within the scope of the "Zero Waste Project" carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. Within the scope of the ‘Zero Waste Project’ at our university, we aim to rank higher in the coming years with more effective execution of the waste management system, interactive activities in the fields of rain harvesting, transportation, education and research."
Giving importance to sustainability studies, IGU published its Sustainability Status Report for the first time in 2022 and its Sustainability Report 2023 this year.
