Research and Development Policy

Istanbul Gelisim University defines education and research as a primary cause. The purpose of the research is to produce value. Tangible and intangible values together create culture: Technology is the material element of the culture; artworks, intellectual works, meanings, social policies, know-how, social capital, methods, understanding, philosophy and traditions bring the non-material element to the scene.


Every kind of research and development activity carried out to produce value in science, social sciences, health sciences, sports, arts and other fields is defined as value production activity.

To produce knowledge and value and to make qualified research and publication to transform these productions into added value; the university's research to improve human power; improve the university's research infrastructure, support mechanisms and research know-how; establish partnerships and collaborations with other research institutions in the country and abroad; to increase the university's research income; adhering to the principles of research, science and publishing ethics; having an ambitious position in international rankings and having a respected reputation in the real sector brings the IGU's research strategy to the forefront.

Basic Values

The core values of the university's research policy are:

1- Research is the cause of the university: The primary duty of the university's academic staff is to provide education and research. The primary goal of the university administration is to create a supportive environment for these activities and to establish institutional support and incentive mechanisms.
2- Research is producing a value: Research activities are done to add value to the world of knowledge, technology, collecting, humanity, thought and art.
3-Publication production from research results: The results of research activities should be transformed into qualified publications. The necessary institutional broadcasting support mechanisms must be established and effectively managed by the administration.
4- Value-added production from research results: The results of research and development activities are converted into value-added. The necessary institutional support mechanisms are established and operated by the management.
5- Unconditional commitment to the principles of science, research and publication: The principles of science, publication and research are applied with zero tolerance policy.
6- Interdisciplinary research and development: The involvement of faculty members of different departments and programs in research is the only way to respond to the complex needs and complexities of humanity.
7- Collaboration with research institutes and universities: To build sustainable partnerships with national and international research institutions and universities through research partnerships and partnerships established according to win-win understanding.
8- Thematic research: "Ecological, economic, technological, social and cultural sustainability", the strategic priority and specialization area of IGU is a priority and supported research and development field. In addition to the goal of the university to create this "tradition/school", each department conducts research in its own area of expertise and priority.

Research and Development Strategy

The cornerstones of the research and development policy around these values and priorities are:

At least one year of research and publication goals are determined for each academic staff, department and school/faculty of the university. The estimated budget for the research topic, for which support program is written, is included in this goal setting process. These targets are published as internal documents. Percentages of realization of these annual targets are measured, monitored, assessed, reported and improved measures are taken.
The university's strategic priority and specialization area is "ecological, economic, technological, social and cultural sustainability and a specialization area of each chapter is a priority with the supported research field. To create an academic school / tradition through specialization and concentration is aimed.
Research  projects are written with diversification and according to programs financed by the university's own funds, financed by domestic and private institutions and financed by foreign sources. Projects are supported through IGUBAPUM and TTO by using the equity of the university.
An incentive project and publication promotion mechanism are established and operated. Research and publication performance is considered as an important criterion of the performance-based wage system.
Establishing institutional support mechanisms and increasing the amount of support provided through this mechanism in foreign language, proposal writing, budgeting, publication, patent application etc. for writing a research proposal and research outputs into publication and product, is the priority of university senior management.

Organizational culture with a human resource management that supports and encourages research, and with fee and incentive system is established to train, attract, promote, and develop research human resources.
Opening a doctoral program for each department is adopted as a medium-term target, and encouraging measures are taken for qualified students to take these programs. Measures are taken to facilitate the development of graduate students' research, writing project proposals, producing qualified publications from their theses and facilitating the employment of those who are successful.
The efficiency of the output of research projects is increased. Number of qualified publications made from research projects; number of citations taken by these publications, high value-added patent produced from research projects, useful model, copyright and other outcomes; contribution from the R&D activities to the community regularly and continuously monitored, reported, and remedial measures taken.
The vice rector responsible for the research, the vice rector responsible for quality and, the research and development committee is responsible for the management and coordination of these processes and the projects aimed for international rankings, research, publication, citation, patent, copyright, number of doctoral students, recognition in the sector, meeting the goals of online visibility.
 
Research and Development Goals

1. To increase the number of written and applied research projects.
2. Increase the number of supported research projects.
3. To increase the amount of research support.
4. Strengthen the research infrastructure.
5. To increase the number of joint research and development carried out together with research institutions.
6. Open doctoral programs and attract qualified doctoral students.
7. To increase outputs of high value-added patents, utility models, copyrights ... produced from research projects..
8. To increase the number of qualified and indexed publications from research projects.
9. To increase the number of citations in journals indexed to university publications.
10. To establish institutional support mechanisms and to increase the amount of support in the subjects such as writing a research proposal and converting the research outputs into publication and product, writing foreign language proposals, budgeting, writing articles, patent applications etc.
11. To increase university research income.
12. To raise the university's position in international rankings.
Indicators are created to monitor the extent to which these goals are achieved. Realization percentages are identified, corrective and remedial measures are taken.
