Internationalization Policy

Higher education institutions entered a period in which they carried out their activities in an environment where the rate of change is high and the half-life of the information is quite short in a world, where ecological, social, economic and technological effects of the transboundary features comes foreground; that has been integrated more than ever in the past with the effect of globalization and communication technologies. The impact of higher education institutions in these new environments, their role, the type of competition they are exposed to, the way they measure their performance, the characteristics they need to bring to their students, the characteristics of human resources, the education and the outputs of the service to the society, the cooperation with the real sector have very important differences compared to the first and second generation universities. Higher education institutions, which cannot achieve the standards of this new environment, where competition for higher education is rising seems difficult for them to be successful even exist in the medium and long term.

Istanbul Gelisim University has adopted the mission of “being one of the LEADER WORLD UNIVERSITIES that produces value for continuous improvement”. Internationalization is a sine qua non for achieving this mission. The aim of Istanbul Gelisim University is to produce value. In order to produce value and to ensure that those produced are adopted as value and became widespread it is necessary to have the knowledge of universal knowledge and accumulation; to determine the priorities of research and education by following the international developments as well as the needs. It cannot be expected that a higher education institution, which cannot produce any value, to become a leading world university.  Value generation is realized faster, more and more effectively in interdisciplinary, intersectoral and international collaborations and partnerships. For this reason, IGU has adopted the goal of increasing its human, social, cultural, intellectual and organizational capital through internationalization. To achieve this goal, the university pursues a multinational human resources structure, a multinational student structure, multinational research and development activities, multinational university - real sector collaborations, and a strategy to establish a capability and capacity to serve a multinational society.

Basic Values
 
The basic values on which our university's internationalization policy is based are:

1- Multiculturalism: Future of the human being who can live in a multicultural world and produce value.
2- Diversity is a wealth: Different cultures and perspectives are not threats but opportunities.
3- Living together with respect for individual differences: A sense of coexistence and work based on the supremacy of the law, mixed with tolerance culture.
4- Win and gain: As information is shared its value increases. International collaborations are established to increase the speed of learning and information generation from our partners. International collaborations are based on the principle that both partners are profitable.
5- International membership and accreditation: International memberships and accreditation, as well as development methods, are also quality assurance, internal and external audit tools.

Internationalization Strategy

The cornerstones of the internationalization policy shaped around these values and priorities are:


To increase the number of international students, faculty, university partnerships, and real sector cooperation; actions to be taken to promote international mobility, objectives, strategies and policy revisions are determined by the participation of internal and external stakeholders. The opinions of internal and external stakeholders are regularly held, and the relevant committees and units discuss, evaluate and decide on regular meetings.

The mobility window ("international mobility window") is prepared during the training planning. It is the responsibility of the vice-rectors responsible for education and external relations.

Institutional communication is not compromised in providing access to international students, faculty members, universities and organizations and contacting them. In the agreements made with international student brokerages with the materials such as international documents, images, promotional films, etc., it is a priority to carefully explain, transfer and maintain the brand value of the University.
In line with the research policy objectives and research strategies, taking into consideration the sustainability and value generating objectives of IGU; strategic research partners from foreign universities, foreign research institutions, and real sector representatives are determined.
After connection with relevant units, research activities based on win-win philosophy are carried out with these strategic partners; These activities should be sustainable.

Increasing the number of programs and courses taught in a foreign language in order to achieve the multinational student combination and multinational teaching staff objectives; increasing the guidance and support activities in the fields of academic, career, research, library, socio-cultural adaptation and health for foreign students; providing information and support for foreign nationals and faculty members on transportation, nutrition, accommodation, visa, residence and / or work permit, access to urban and public services.
Effective publicity, wide access to a potential pool of students, dissemination of YÖS examination and attracting of international students, selection of qualified international students, application and the registration processes for international students are carried out in a fast and free of bureaucratic angies, successful TÖMER and Preparatory School training, support for the academic and social life skills of the registered international students are provided.

The number of multinational and multi-partner project applications written to EU research and implementation support programs is increased. Staff is encouraged, supported and improved in performance through the necessary support and monitoring mechanisms, especially in the project writing and management trainings.

The number of staff and students benefiting from Erasmus and Mevlana programs and budget revenues are increased.
Students, faculty and administrative staff are encouraged to take advantage of learning, teaching and internship mobility; For this purpose, information and publicity meetings are held.


To provide regular and effective support and encouragement for academic and administrative staff to learn foreign languages; open programs and organize courses. The quality of English education is monitored and managed; international accreditation is constantly improved by various ways and methods.

Language, implemental procedures, project and patent applications, publication, conference panel arrangement support are provided for facilitating joint research, project and application studies of international universities and other solution partner real sector representatives (public private or voluntary organizations) with IGU.
Coordination of activities for the development, implementation, revision and implementation of internationalization policies, performance measurement, monitoring and evaluation activities is carried out by the University Internationalization Committee.

Internationalization Goals

1. To increase the number of international students and to diversify the number of countries where the students come from.
2. To increase the number of international faculty members and to diversify the number of countries of the faculty.
3. To increase the mobility of our students, faculty members and administrative staff to study abroad, internship and training.
4. Increasing the number of partnerships and collaborations established with overseas universities and the number of educational mobility, research, scientific cultural and social activities carried out with them.
5. To increase cooperation and activity numbers and varieties with international and international real sector organizations.
6. To increase the University's overseas income.
7. To establish and develop the organization, process and personnel structure to support the internationalization policies and objectives of the university.
8. Performance monitoring, reporting, evaluation and improvement work by developing internationalization targets and indicators.

Indicators are created to monitor the extent to which these objectives are achieved. Realization percentages are determined, corrective and remedial measures are taken.
