A Project Supporting Maternal Health through IGU-Bakırköy Municipality Collaboration
A comprehensive education program for expectant mothers and new mothers was held as part of the “Maternal Support Project (I Became a Mother)” carried out through a collaboration between Istanbul Gelisim University and Bakırköy Municipality. The event, organized at the Bakırköy Municipality Directorate of Health Affairs Conference Hall, attracted strong attendance from academics, students, and members of the public.
An Informative Health Seminar from IGU
The seminar was attended by IGU Vocational School of Health Services Vice Director Asst. Prof. Nurcihan Tan Erkoç, Digital Health Systems Technician Program Head Lecturer Ebru Cengiz, Podology Department Head Lecturer Almina Durmuş Koç, Medical Data Processing Technician Program Head Lecturer Sibel Sekman, along with School of Health Services students and residents of the Bakırköy district.
At the event, a seminar titled “Prenatal Education and Frequently Asked Questions about Newborns” was delivered by Prof. Öznur Küçük, a faculty member in the Child Development Department of Istanbul Gelisim University's School of Health Services and a specialist in pediatrics.
The seminar covered a wide range of topics from pregnancy through newborn care, including the most common questions asked by mothers, a newborn's stomach capacity, screenings carried out in hospital after birth, vaccines and medications, vitamin use in infants, breast milk storage, bath time, infantile colic, and baby safety.

Bakırköy Mayor Assoc. Prof. Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu, who attended the program, emphasized in her remarks that support for expectant mothers and mothers would continue. Drawing attention to the importance of projects that prioritize public health, Assoc. Prof. Ovalıoğlu also acknowledged the value of university partnerships.
IGU’s Social Contribution Vision at the Fore
At the close of the program, thanks were extended to the academics and students who contributed to the event, and flowers were presented to Prof. Öznur Küçük, who delivered the seminar.
This social responsibility project, realized through the collaboration of Istanbul Gelisim University and Bakırköy Municipality, not only raised awareness of maternal and infant health but also once again highlighted IGU’s vision of contributing to society.
