Istanbul Gelişim University Rector Prof. Dr. Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Arda Öztürkcan attended the Science Diplomacy Academy Launch on the Road to COP31 and COP31 Meeting, organized by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) in Ankara. At the meeting, which addressed the role higher education will assume during Türkiye's COP31 Presidency, universities' scientific contribution to the fight against climate change and to sustainable development goals was assessed.

Universities' COP31 Roadmap Shared

At the academy launch, held with the participation of CoHE President Prof. Erol Özvar and COP31 President and Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum, the roadmap for universities regarding the COP31 process was shared with the public. The launch addressed priority goals including universities taking a more active role in international science networks, establishing lasting collaborations with research centers, involving young researchers more fully in the process, developing climate-friendly technologies, and strengthening university–industry collaborations.
The meeting also shared the goals of higher education institutions developing solution-producing projects in the fight against climate change through science diplomacy, contributing to sustainable development goals, and building an international academic cooperation ecosystem that will continue beyond COP31.

A Contribution from IGU to the Science Diplomacy Vision

Istanbul Gelişim University, which sustains its sustainability-focused academic approach on national and international platforms, contributed to the consultations on the role higher education will assume in the fight against climate change by participating in the meeting held for the COP31 process, and once again demonstrated its vision for joint work to be developed along the axis of science diplomacy.
