A Proud Achievement in the Defense Industry from Istanbul Gelisim University Software Engineering Students
Istanbul Gelisim University Software Engineering students Münevver Busenur Şengül and Merve Akgül received an important invitation thanks to their successful projects carried out within the SAYZEK - Academic Thesis Program (SAYZEK-ATP), conducted by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB).
Within the scope of the 2025-2026 SAYZEK-ATP term, the students’ supported projects earned them the right to participate in the SAYZEK-ATP Winter Camp, where artificial intelligence applications in the defense industry will be examined on site. This invitation highlights the significance of their academic work for the defense industry ecosystem.
The Program Will Take Place in Ankara
The Winter Camp, planned to be held between 9–12 February 2026 in Ankara, aims to provide students with the opportunity to examine current technologies used in the defense industry firsthand and to gain practical insights that directly contribute to their thesis and project studies.
As part of the program, technical visits are planned to leading and strategically important defense industry organizations including HAVELSAN, ROKETSAN, TUSAŞ, and ASELSAN. These visits are intended to give participants the opportunity to closely observe the advanced technological systems developed within the defense sector.
Training Focused on Current and Critical Topics
The training sessions during the Winter Camp will focus on current and strategically significant topics such as image processing and VLM in the defense sector, communications and signal processing, autonomy and robotic systems, edge artificial intelligence and model optimization, LLM, RAG, XAI, and cybersecurity. Field-focused trainings and technical presentations aim to provide students with application-based contributions to support their academic studies.
IGU’s Academic Strength Demonstrated Once Again
The invitation of the students, whose projects are supervised by Assoc. Prof. Serkan Gönen, to participate in this comprehensive program, after earning SAYZEK-ATP support, once again demonstrated Istanbul Gelisim University’s academic expertise, research capacity, and vision for cultivating qualified human resources in the fields of defense industry and artificial intelligence.
