IGU on the Rise in Wrestling: The Only Foundation University in Wrestling Division A
Istanbul Gelisim University continues to make a name for itself with its achievements in wrestling. Securing three proud results in freestyle, IGU earned the right to compete in the Greco-Roman style Division A of the Turkish Wrestling Championship, crossing a significant threshold.
A Major Achievement in Greco-Roman Style Division A!
Istanbul Gelisim University has made a remarkable mark by placing among the 10 universities competing in the Greco-Roman style Division A. What makes this achievement even more meaningful is that IGU is the only foundation university in this division.
Ahead of the competitions scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the university administration conveyed their best wishes to the team and once again reaffirmed their support for the athletes.
Three Proud Results in Freestyle
IGU athletes also claimed notable placings at the Turkish Men’s Freestyle Wrestling Championship, bringing pride to their university:
Kerem Dede (97 kg): Outpaced tough opponents to finish as the Turkish runner-up.
Semih Şen (70 kg): Delivered an outstanding performance to claim third place in Türkiye.
Ahmet Yağan (86 kg): Secured the Turkish runner-up title with a strong showing.
IGU Rising Across All Areas of Sport
These results, achieved by Istanbul Gelisim University students with the support of the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports (SKS) Sports Coordinator Kaan Oğulcan Hanbaba and Res. Asst. Bilgehan Pepe from the Exercise and Sport Sciences for People with Disabilities program at Istanbul Gelisim University’s Faculty of Sports Sciences, stand as a concrete reflection of the university’s deep commitment to sport. The achievements in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling put IGU’s rising standing in wrestling firmly on display.
