Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) brought its students studying in the field of media directly into the heart of the industry. Within the scope of a technical visit organized on December 29, 2025, students from the IGU Television Journalism and Programming Department and the IGU New Media and Communication Department had the opportunity to examine the professional workings of the media sector on-site at ATV. The visit, attended by Research Assistant M. Erman Balak from the IGU New Media and Communication Department, enabled students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge through practical experience.
As part of the Media Performance and Screen Language course which is held as a make-up class conducted by Cem Öğretir, ATV main news anchor and a lecturer in the IGU Television Journalism and Programming Department, the visit transformed the academic knowledge students had gained in class into a concrete experience at ATV studios. Students closely observed the working dynamics of the media sector and examined news production processes on-site. While increasing students’ sectoral awareness, the visit also strengthened their interdisciplinary perspectives.
Throughout the visit, students were accompanied by Cem Öğretir, ATV Main News Bulletin Anchor and Course Instructor. Öğretir guided students through ATV’s broadcast studios, providing detailed explanations of news production processes, broadcast flow, and studio organization. Students had the opportunity to ask their questions directly to an active professional working in the sector.
During the visit held at the Turkuvaz Media Center, students closely examined the control room, studio areas, and broadcast infrastructure. Gaining comprehensive information about all stages of news production, students observed the technical and editorial processes of broadcasting in a real media environment.
The visit, which brought together students from the Television Journalism and Programming and New Media and Communication departments, created a shared learning environment. The event, attended by students from different classes and programs, increased interdisciplinary interaction and supported collective learning.
The visit offered an important academic experience that strengthened students’ professional motivation. The knowledge gained about news production processes, broadcasting’s technical infrastructure, and editorial decision-making mechanisms increased students’ awareness of their future professions.
This technical visit to ATV contributed to students’ understanding of the media sector from a holistic perspective. In line with its applied education approach, Istanbul Gelisim University continues to support such field studies and technical visits that bring students together with the industry.
