Research Excellence from IGU in SCImago 2026: Ranked 1st in Türkiye in Mechanical Engineering

The SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026 results, which evaluate universities based on research performance, innovation, and societal impact using the Scopus database, have been announced. Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) stood out in the results for its rising research performance and strong position in engineering. According to SCImago 2026, Istanbul Gelisim University ranked 29th overall in Türkiye. Among foundation universities, IGU retained its 6th-place standing, as it had the previous year.

Rising Research Performance

The SCImago 2026 assessment highlighted Istanbul Gelisim University's notable progress in research performance. Having ranked 4th among foundation universities in research last year, the university climbed one place to reach 3rd this year. In the overall research rankings, IGU placed 11th nationwide in Türkiye.
In the same assessment, Istanbul Gelisim University also posted a noteworthy performance in the social impact category, ranking 36th overall in Türkiye and 5th among foundation universities.

Ranked 1st in Türkiye in Mechanical Engineering

In subject-area evaluations, Istanbul Gelisim University ranked 11th in Türkiye in engineering, demonstrating its strong performance in this field.
Results in mechanical engineering further underscored the university's academic strength in this discipline. Istanbul Gelisim University ranked 1st in both Türkiye and the Middle East in mechanical engineering. The university placed 2nd in Türkiye in structural and construction engineering, 6th in economics, and 9th in business.

Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin stated that the results are an important indicator of the university's research-oriented development process.
Emphasizing that efforts to enhance the quality of academic output are being pursued with determination, Şahin offered the following assessment:

“The success we have achieved in engineering, and in mechanical engineering in particular, in the SCImago 2026 results is a clear reflection of the scientific output produced by our university's strong research infrastructure and distinguished academic staff. The results in engineering, led by our first-place ranking in mechanical engineering, plainly demonstrate our academic competence and research capacity in this field.
