Students tell about the city they live in for the project of Istanbul in Our View
Students from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) the Faculty of Fine Arts carry out a project named “Istanbul in Our View”. ‘The team of Istanbul in Our View’ with undergraduate students from many different departments such as Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Cinema and Television, Communication Design, Graphic Design. It aims to raise awareness in creating a youth that embraces its art and culture by correctly promoting the cultural heritage of Istanbul.
“I WAS INSPIRED BY THE UNIQUE CULTURAL, ARTISTIC AND ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE OF ISTANBUL”
Stating that the project emerged and developed with the presentation assignments about Istanbul in Art and Design History courses,
Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut said: “While putting this project forward, I was inspired by the unique cultural, artistic and architectural heritage of Istanbul. I believe that this endless material should be used and adopted by young people, interpreted and transferred correctly. I have full confidence in my young friends who have set out together with, who believe in this project and want to be in it. I believe that if our project is approved and it can receive the necessary support, this first work that we will do can open the way for such studies.”
“IT IS A WAY TO PRESENT THE VALUE THE CITY DESERVES”
Stating that Istanbul Gelisim University plans to get the opinions of students studying in different faculties through interviews on Istanbul, Aykut said: “I think the project is also very important for the correct promotion of Istanbul Gelisim University. ‘Istanbul in Our View’ is a project of telling, making it sense and keeping alive this city, which has different meanings for each of us, as the city we were born/have lived/have studied. In a sense, perhaps it is a way to present the value and respect that the city deserves through young people.”
Mentioning that ‘the Team of Istanbul in Our View’ has adopted the goal of continuing on its path without sacrificing its principled stance in all projects realized and aimed to be realized, Aykut listed the principles as follows:
“Equality, openness, entrepreneurship, valuing knowledge, developing together, open source, learning while doing, creating synergy and joint power, acting with a collective understanding of mind, constantly improving and developing, protecting universal and human values.”
“WE DETERMINED 10 REGIONS”
Stating that the aim of her team is to make continuous contributions to themselves and the environment they can reach, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut also gave information about the project's study plan. Aykut ended her speech as follows:
“Believing in the power of the image and the rise of the visual culture, as a result of our research, we have determined the ten regions that we want to describe its architecture, culture, art, entertainment life, cuisine and bazaar. We have planned to make presentations by producing contents about the places we have chosen together with Taksim, Beşiktaş, Sarıyer, Üsküdar, Balat, Karaköy, Sultanahmet, Eminönü, Kadıköy and Adalar every fifteen days during our fall and spring semesters, starting from January 2020 to the end of the May, on Youtube as a vlog. Each vlog will consist of a few episodes of three to four minutes and will not exceed twenty minutes in total.”
