According to the statistics of 2019, the safest means of transportation is airplane
The airliner accident statistics of the Aviation Safety Network (ASN) last year shows again that the safest means of transportation is airplanes. According to statistics, there were 20 plane crashes last year resulting in deaths. Pointing out that the safest means of transportation is airplanes considering that the accident rate is one fatal accident per almost two million flights depending on the air traffic of almost 39 million flights around the world, Professional Aircraft Aerospace Engineer Haluk Kul said: “2019 can be regarded as one of the safest year in terms of accident and death numbers.”
According to the statistics published by the Aviation Safety Network (ASN), which provides up-to-date information on aviation accidents and safety issues, a total of 20 fatal airplane accidents occurred in 2019, and 283 people died. The statistics shows again that the safest means of transportation is airplanes in 2019 as well despite accidents regarding all fatal commercial aircraft accidents (passenger and cargo flights) around the world, including civilian aircraft carrying 14 or more passengers. Based on around 39 million flights worldwide, the accident rate resulted in one fatal accident in almost two million flights.
2019 IS THE SEVENTH SAFEST YEAR
According to the released statistics, 2019 was one of the safest years ever despite the Boeing 737 MAX accident. The number of deaths in accidents has decreased compared to previous years. 2019 became the seventh safest year with the number of fatal accidents and the third safest year in terms of deaths, the statistics show. The safest year in aviation history was 2017 with 10 accidents and 44 deaths. Passenger flights had 13 accidents and cargo flights had 6 accidents. One of the 20 accidents was by the plane of an airline in the European Union.
“WE CAN CONSIDER 2019 WAS QUITE GOOD DESPITE THE ACCIDENTS”
Noting that the released statistics show that the studies conducted in terms of aviation safety are in the right direction,
Professional Aircraft Aerospace Engineer Haluk Kul from Istanbul Gelisim University said: “Despite the Boeing 737 MAX accidents, we can consider 2019 was quite good despite the accidents in terms of accident and death numbers. In 2019, the number of deaths decreased. 2019 became the seventh safest year on fatal accidents and the third safest year in terms of deaths in aviation history. The safest year in aviation history was 2017 with 10 accidents and 44 deaths.
“MOST ACCIDENTS HAPPENED IN THE NORTH AMERICA”
Stating that more than half of the accidents happened in North America, where aviation is thought to be the best practice, Dr. Kul emphasized that this issue cannot be ignored. He pointed out that 11 of the 20 accidents last year occurred in North America and five accidents in Canada and Alaska.
