IGU Participates in ADEP-Funded Project Designed in Collaboration with 36 Universities
The project titled “Development of a Device for Creating Controlled-Modified Atmosphere in Refrigerators and Its Application in Extending the Shelf Life of Different Food Groups” has been selected for support under the Research Universities Project (ADEP). The project is led by Assoc. Prof. Hasan Cankurt of Yıldız Technical University, with Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Vice Rector Prof. S. Arda Öztürkcan and other IGU academics serving as researchers. Carrying a total budget of 2,390,000 TL and running over 24 months, the project aims to develop an innovative device capable of extending the freshness of different food groups by creating a controlled and modified atmosphere inside refrigerators.
A Strong Academic Contribution from IGU
Alongside IGU Vice Rector Prof. S. Arda Öztürkcan, the project's research team includes Asst. Prof. Nevruz Berna Tatlısu from the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts program at IGU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Asst. Prof. Eda Şensu from the Food Technology program at Istanbul Gelisim Vocational School.
In this respect, the project once again demonstrates Istanbul Gelisim University's contribution to scientific research activities and inter-university collaborations. The active role of IGU academics in the project aims to strengthen the university's research capacity in the fields of food technologies and sustainability.
A Project That Will Open Doors to Innovative Technologies
The project involves 62 researchers from 36 universities and is conducted within the framework of the international FIRST research network. The device to be developed is expected to offer innovative solutions applicable to both domestic refrigerators and commercial food storage and cold chain systems.
Beyond contributing to academic knowledge, this study advances food preservation technologies and represents a significant step forward in sustainable food management and the reduction of food waste.
