May 19 Enthusiasm at IGU: Youth, Art, and the Spirit of the Republic on the Same Stage

The May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day event, organized by Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), was held to a large audience and with great enthusiasm. The program, enriched with musical performances and dance shows reflecting different cultures, gave participants unforgettable moments. At the event held at Istanbul Gelisim University, students and academics came together in a special program bringing the spirit of independence carried by May 19 together with the arts. The IGU Youth Choir took to the stage with its wide repertoire, offering the audience an impressive musical performance. Throughout the program, the IGU Dance Club performed modern dance, Georgian dance, tango, and zeybek (a traditional Turkish folk dance), with the stage performances receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience.

“Strong Societies Are Built by Qualified Youth”

FHS Dean Prof. Mustafa Nizamlıoğlu, who delivered the opening remarks, emphasized that May 19 is not merely a historical turning point but also one of the most powerful symbols of the trust placed in youth and the hope for the future. In his address, Nizamlıoğlu stated:

“As the Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Health Sciences, we regard it as our fundamental duty to raise you not only for academic success, but also as individuals with high social sensitivity, the capacity for critical thinking, a solution-oriented and innovative approach, and universal values. Because we believe that strong societies are built by qualified youth. We are here today not only to commemorate our past, but to build our future more consciously, more powerfully, and more hopefully. The spirit of May 19 is the name of courage, independence, belief, and the power to start anew. I wholeheartedly believe that this spirit will continue to live in your hearts.”

The event, which united the values of the Republic with the unifying power of art on the same stage, concluded with enthusiastic student participation and a festive spirit.
