A Cinematic Journey by IGU Film Academy to Mardin

The Istanbul Gelisim University Film Academy took an important step in Mardin for the planned Dara Film Workshop. As part of the workshop preparations, meetings were initiated with Vural Güngör, the Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism of Mardin. Following the discussions, it was agreed that academic activities would begin led by Istanbul Gelisim University and that film workshops, particularly in disadvantaged areas, would be held in the spring months.

Four-Week Cinema Training and the Dara Documentary

The workshop, to be carried out by the IGU Film Academy, will include a comprehensive four-week cinema training program. After the training, participants will film the Dara Documentary. The gala screening of the completed documentary will take place at the Conference Hall of Mardin Artuklu University.

Practical Training for High School Students

Designed primarily for high school students, the workshop program will cover topics such as camera operation, editing, lighting, documentary filmmaking, and documentary flow writing. At the end of the training process, students will have the opportunity to film their own scripts. By gaining experience in directing, screenwriting, and cinematography, participants will take an important step toward their future professional careers. In this way, young people will be introduced to the innovative power of cinema at an early age.

Coordination and Academic Contribution

The workshop will be coordinated by Ahmet Bikiç, Vice Director of the IGU Directorate of Public Relations and Promotion and a filmmaker. Additionally, Feyat Öner, a student in the Radio, Television, and Cinema Program at the IGU Faculty of Fine Arts, will also serve on the workshop coordination team.

A Strong Contribution from IGU to Culture and the Arts

Through this project carried out under the Film Academy, Istanbul Gelisim University once again underscores its identity as a university that assumes social responsibility not only in the academic field but also in cultural and artistic production. With the Dara Film Workshop to be held in Mardin, IGU aims to increase young people's access to the arts and contribute to regional cultural memory through cinema.
