A Meaningful Step for the Environment from IGU Students: “Meeting for Nature”
The Department of Public Relations and Promotion at the Faculty of Economics, Administrative, and Social Sciences (FEASS) organized an environmental cleanup event called “Meeting for Nature” (Doğa İçin Buluşuyoruz) to draw attention to environmental pollution and raise ecological awareness. The event was launched under the call “Together at Aydos Forest to Breathe Life into Green.”
Student-Designed Project Carried Out with Volunteers
The event was carried out under the coordination of Asst. Prof. İlknur Gümüş as part of the “Sustainability and Communication” course in the Public Relations and Promotion Department, and was designed by department students Efe Arif Keskin, Dinçer Şenyüzlü, and Batuhan Yıldırım within the scope of the course.
Acting with a spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility, the event group consisted of department representatives Res. Asst. Emre Ergen and Asst. Prof. İlknur Gümüş, along with volunteer university students.
Collected Waste Directed to Recycling
Under the slogan “I Love Green, I Protect My Future”, the waste collected from nature was sorted by type and delivered at the end of the day to Sancaktepe Municipality's Mobile Waste Bring Centre. The fieldwork, whose primary aim was to build a strong environmental consciousness in society and increase sustainability awareness particularly among students, gave participants a direct opportunity to put the idea of environmental protection into practice.
In her closing remarks, Asst. Prof. İlknur Gümüş emphasized that this initiative should not be perceived simply as "picking up litter," stressing that the true objective is to build a culture of sustainable consumption.
As part of a project aiming to create lasting and sustainable awareness through direct engagement with nature, students made direct contributions to Sustainable Development Goals including Climate Action, Life on Land, and Sustainable Cities and Communities. Through the event, participants gained a hands-on experience aimed at developing nature-friendly habits in their daily lives.
