AQAS Evaluation Committee visited the departments in the field of Banking and Finance within the scope of accreditation renewal studies

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Türkiye's most internationally accredited university, continues to carry out its accreditation processes meticulously in order to bring the quality of education to global standards. In this context, the Evaluation Committee of the International Independent Accreditation Agency AQAS (Agency for Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Study Programs) visited the university within the scope of the accreditation renewal studies of the departments in the field of Banking and Finance within the IGU Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences.

Strategic discussions with university senior management

In the first phase of the visit, AQAS officials met with the senior management of Istanbul Gelisim University and exchanged views on accreditation processes and quality assurance policies. Abdülkadir Gayretli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin, Vice Rectors Prof. Nuri Kuruoğlu, Prof. Necmettin Maraşlı, Prof. Arda Öztürkcan and Quality Coordinator  Prof. Hasan Hakan Bozkurt participated. Organization management of the visit was held by Assoc.  Prof. Emel Tozlu Öztay.
In this meeting, the university's internationalization policies, understanding of excellence in education, academic staff structure, quality assurance systems and strategies to increase student success were discussed.


 

Meetings with Faculty of Applied Sciences and Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences

Another stage of the accreditation process was the meetings held with the administrations of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and the Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences. AQAS officials met with the managers of the relevant units to evaluate the past and future development of the academic programs carried out in the faculties.
The meeting was attended by the Dean of Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Prof. Kenan Aydin, UBFaculty of Applied Sciences Dean Prof. Kamil Kaya, İİSBF AQAS Reaccreditation Coordinator Prof. Metin Uyar, Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Emrah Doğan and Asst. Prof. Özlem Tuğçe Keleş, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and AQAS Faculty Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Görsev Bafralı and Asst. Prof. Muzaffer Çakmak.
In these interviews, issues such as quality assurance systems, student admission processes, curriculum development studies and sectoral connections of the departments in the field of Banking and Finance were discussed in detail.
 

Campus and academic department visits

AQAS officials examined the educational infrastructure on campus as an important part of the accreditation process. Physical facilities offered by the university were evaluated by visiting the library, classrooms, laboratories and student study areas.
Later, the Department of Economics and Finance, the Department of Banking and Insurance and the Department of Management Information Systems were visited and one-on-one interviews were held with the lecturers.
These sessions were attended by the Head of the Department of Economics and Finance, Asst. Prof. Mehmet Saya, Head of Banking and Insurance Department Assoc. Prof. Hakan Özcan, Head of Management Information Systems Department Prof. Orhan İşcan, Assoc.  Prof. Ayşegül Ertuğrul, Dr. Tayfun Timuray, Assoc. Prof. Bülent İlhan, Assoc. Prof. Deniz Şişman and Asst. Prof. Tuğba Kantarcı participated.
In the interviews, student evaluation systems, suitability of the curriculum to sector needs, feedback from the business world and academic development processes were discussed.
 

Interviews with students, graduates and business representatives

Within the scope of the visit, interviews were held with students and graduates from Banking and Insurance and Economics and Finance (Turkish-English) departments. Students provided feedback on educational processes, course contents, academic support mechanisms, and post-graduation career opportunities.
In addition, at the meetings held with business representatives, evaluations were made on the positions of graduates in the sector, university-industry cooperation and employment processes. These sessions were attended by Selim Cömert, representative of Vakıf Katılım Bank A.Ş., Ümit Kılıç, President of GESİD, Mutlusan Plastik Elektrik San. ve Tic. A.Ş., Gürbüz Hocaoğlu from ÜNSPED Customs Consultancy and Logistics Services Inc. and Rıfat Erman Dinçel from Detay Finance Technologies Inc.
 

An important step in the accreditation process

Istanbul Gelisim University has completed an important stage in the accreditation process with this comprehensive evaluation carried out by AQAS in line with its understanding of education in accordance with international standards and the importance it attaches to quality assurance.
Following the visit, AQAS officials provided detailed feedback to the university administration. The final accreditation decision will be announced by AQAS after the completion of the evaluations.
This process will support Istanbul Gelisim University's vision of becoming a globally competitive educational institution, while also contributing to its goal of providing its students with an internationally accredited education.
