Between December 17-19, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU)—the Turkish university holding the highest number of international accreditations—hosted a visit from representatives of AQAS, an independent international accreditation body and member of the European Quality Assurance Association, to review and renew the international accreditation processes of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Striving to become a “World University,” IGU achieves global success through its internationalization strategies and qualified academic staff. AQAS, established in Germany in 2002, has accredited over 5,000 programs worldwide. Accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Emel Tozlu Öztay, the AQAS delegation evaluated the Faculty of Fine Arts, which has six accredited departments, during their visit on December 17-19.
Prior to the evaluation sessions, International Accreditation Consultant Jana Newiger and Vi Le from the AQAS Assessment Committee met with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Abdülkadir Gayretli, Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin, Vice-Rector for Quality, Accreditation and Internationalization Prof. Arda Öztürkcan, and Quality Coordinator Prof. Hasan Hakan Bozkurt. The AQAS expert team—Prof. Wolfgang Grillitsch, Prof. Ralf Weber, Prof. Marc Grief, and Eastern Mediterranean University Student Representative Eylül Zeynep Özkazanç—also joined the discussions.
They then held a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Prof. Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp, and Vice Deans Assoc. Prof. Murat Doğan and Assoc. Prof. Sezgin Savaş. During this session, the university’s overall structure, as well as the educational opportunities and curricula in the Faculty of Fine Arts, were thoroughly examined by the AQAS Evaluation Committee for accreditation purposes.
