European Football Championship which will be held between the dates June 12 to July 12, 2020 comes first among the main sports competitions of 2020. Turkish National Football Team will also take part at the Championship. Genetics Specialist from Marmara University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Korkut Ulucan participating in 'Sports Workshop in Academic and Real Sector Cooperation' in cooperation with Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) School of Physical Education Sports and Başakşehir Municipality made a statement to Demirören News Agency about whether the coronavirus (Covid-19) will affect the giant organization, UEFA 2020 European Football Championship hosted by 12 cities in 12 European countries, or not.
 
“THE CHAMPIONSHIP CAN BE AFFECTED”

Emphasizing that the European Football Championship is in danger of being delayed or canceled and that the coronvirus affects not only daily life but also sports activities, Associate Professor Dr. Korkut Ulucan said: “Even though we think that the biological and genetic structure of the virus is understood, we get new information because it is a newer virus. There are some aspects that are similar to normal viruses as well, so we need to be cautious about all contact-related activities. Especially, we have the European Championship ahead. Although we look at normal viral methobolism, even though they appear to be affected by heat, we do not have very clear information about this virus. Presumably, in this championship, while the athletes protect themselves in a certain way, there is a danger for fans. We are in danger of delaying or canceling the European Football Championship. Particularly in Italy, certain matches were postponed, some decided to play without spectators. But of course the biggest event of sports activities is the audience. So troubled days are waiting for us. Movements requiring certain activities, such as in NBA or other branches, or in certain sports activities, are prohibited.”

At the Sports Workshop where it is aimed to bring together different sectors of all individuals who have graduated from the IGU School of Physical Education and Sports and to contribute to the studies available across Turkey 7 different commissions and 7 different topics are discussed at 7 rounds.
