"Disaster and Awareness Training" Held at Istanbul Gelisim University

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Disaster and Emergency Coordination Unit organized a “Disaster and Awareness Training for Staff and Students” in line with the official directive sent by the Istanbul Governorship and the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate. During the training, participants were informed about the “Drop-Cover-Hold On” technique and building evacuation procedures within the framework of workplace emergency plans.

The event was designed to promote the adoption of correct behavioral responses in the event of potential disasters and emergencies. Prior to the drill, the training aimed to raise awareness among both students and staff.
The event, held at K Block Firnas Auditorium, was attended by academics, administrative staff, and students, as well as Dr. Rıza Evren Kılcı, Deputy Technical Director of Avcılar Municipality, and Selin Karman, Disaster Affairs Training Officer of Avcılar Municipality. The participants contributed to the training process by sharing their field knowledge and experiences.

Practical Awareness Training for Students and Staff

As part of the training, the “Drop-Cover-Hold On” technique was demonstrated, and key points to consider during building evacuation processes were shared. Participants experienced the importance of acting quickly and safely without panicking during a disaster.

IGU Emphasizes Safe Campus Concept

Istanbul Gelisim University emphasized that through such training sessions, it values not only academic success but also the concept of a safe campus. The university administration stated that disaster awareness training and drills will continue and expressed their commitment to a safety-first approach for all stakeholders, from students to staff.
