Academic literacy education organized by IGU faculty member Dr. Esat Daşdemir titled "Academic Reading, Research, Writing and Publishing Education for Associate and Undergraduate Students" attracted great attention. Hundreds of people applied from 90 different universities that met the criteria for participation in education. During the 20-day announcement and application process, the web page of the project, Akademiloji.com, received more than 2500 unique visitors.
The coordinator of the project supported by TUBITAK Asst. Prof. Esat Daşdemir evaluated the interest in the project with the following words:
“Although it is proud to reach these numbers with a promotional process that is very narrow and we do not transfer financial resources, this is an output of the Turkish young people's passion for research and learning rather than our promotional activities. We have seen these demands of our young people and we will continue our education without interruption in this context. In this context, we successfully carried out our first training between 5-8 November 2024. "
It will be held regularly every year!
Candidates were selected according to their grade point averages and university quotas in education with a quota of 200 students. The GPA of the participants was determined as 80.43 out of 100. While 70% of the participants were students who applied from state universities, 30% were students who applied from foundation universities. 83.1% of those who received the education were undergraduate and 16.9%were associate degree students.
In the project, which included 18 academicians from 4 different universities, Assoc. Prof. İsmail Cem Ay, Asst. Prof. Esat Daşdemir, Asst. Prof. Mustafa Kerem Börü, Asst. Prof. Elif Cemek Anmaç, Lecturer Zeynep Özcan, Lecturer Tuğrul Güngör, Lecturer Seren Firat, Lecturer Dr. Selim Aykaç, Lecturer Samet Balta, Lecturer Dr. Kübra Sağlam, Lecturer Gülcan Güzel, Lecturer Funda Ateş, Res. Asst. Esra Can, Lecturer Asuman Kağıt Balta, Lecturer Burcu Demir, Lecturer Dr. Eda Şensu Demir, Lecturer Hatice Sarıyar, Lecturer Ahmet Burak Turgut participated as an instructor; while Lecturer Recep Dabak contributed as a moderator. The 30-hour training ended on Friday, November 8, 2024.
At the closing meeting, it was announced that the training, which aims to raise awareness of scientific reading and writing among future academics and researchers, will be held regularly every year.
