IGU 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held. Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Sahin, who made the opening speech, stated that IGU is one of the most preferred universities.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was held. The ceremony, which started with a stance of respect and the National Anthem, continued with the opening speeches of the Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Sahin and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Abdulkadir Gayretli after the speech of the University Climate Ambassador Burcu Sahingozlu. TUBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences) Full Member Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Sahin, who attended the ceremony, held the opening lesson of the new academic year with his informative presentation on "The Potential of Boron Compounds in Regenerative Medicine".

"We must stop now, we must listen to the voice of nature"

Referring to the studies carried out by Istanbul Gelisim University on sustainability and zero waste, University Climate Ambassador Burcu Sahingozlu said, "Strangely, rather than harnessing the energy for the benefit of civilization, we would rather harm one another when we discover technology that can even disintegrate atom. Even though we have access to limitless resources like the sun and wind, we continue to consume fossil fuels, which is destroying our forests, oceans, and atmosphere. We must stop now, we must listen to the voice of nature."

“Universities are the intersection of all sciences”

Prof. Dr. Bahri Sahin, the Rector of IGU, stated that the main goal of Istanbul Gelisim University is to raise individuals who have adopted human, social and universal values, pioneered scientific and technological developments, internalized the values of the society, and had the equipment to represent their country in every international field. Prof. Dr. Bahri Sahin, the Rector of IGU, said, "We are achieving significant successes by moving forward with the vision of becoming a Research University. We have 40 thousand registered students. This is an indication that our university is one of the most preferred universities. We are highly ecstatic about this. We have around 6 thousand registered international students and students from 127 countries are studying at IGU. We can say that this is an important contribution to the internationalization goal set by the Council of Higher Education. We are the university with the most international accreditation in Turkey, and our 65 accredited programs are one of the most important issues that we stand out. We aimed at quality in education, training and research and development. We encourage our students to participate in research projects by providing R&D unions with companies through IGU TEKMER and IGU TTO. In addition to technical innovation, we include our teachers and students working in the social and artistic fields in this ecosystem. So I want to say this; universities are actually the intersection points of all sciences. Therefore, the education-teaching and R&D ecosystem is not only connected to the university. It is a structure that requires cooperation with industry, the public, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders. Therefore, if you cannot establish this structure, this ecosystem correctly, you have no chance of developing. In fact, joint cooperation with other universities is crucial for us. We can say that we have efforts in this regard."

“I sincerely believe that we will be among the top universities of the world”

Stating that it is necessary to work together for quality education and quality generation, Abdulkadir Gayretli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Istanbul Gelisim University, said, "We are happy to be among the top 4 foundation universities in Turkey in QS, one of the most respected higher education rating agencies in the world. If we are in unity and solidarity, if we constantly motivate ourselves, if we enable our students to run from success to success, if we show ourselves with academic projects and articles, I sincerely believe that we will be among the world's top universities in a short time."

“It is used effectively in one of the blood cancer derivatives”

The opening lecture of Istanbul Gelisim University 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony was given by Prof. Dr. Fikrettin Sahin, Primary Member of TUBA (Turkish Academy of Sciences). Giving a lecture on "The Potential Use of Boron Compounds in Regenerative Medicine", Sahin said, "When we look at the reserves, 73% of boron minerals are in Turkey currently. We are the richest country in the world. If we explain where it is used in the health sector; there is a treatment method called Boron Neutron Capture Therapy. This is a type of radiation therapy used in cancer treatment. Another is Bortezomib, which is used effectively in one of the multiple myeloma, that is, blood cancer derivatives. Apart from this, when we look at its use in the field of health, we see that there is a boron element in the structure of some antibiotics. When we look at the results of scientific studies, we see that boron has positive effects on wound healing, increasing antioxidant enzyme activities in the blood, preventing heavy metal poisoning and activating the immune system. Looking at it now, the globe has generated a large number of commercially available supplement goods. These are especially; products used in arthritis, bone growth problems, some cancer diseases, healing of brain functions, hormone regulator and wound healing."
