IGU in the final of the Oscars of Higher Education
Known as the Oscars of Higher Education Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2019 shortlisted Istanbul Gelisim University from Turkey for the final. Awards will be given at the Asian Universities Summit to be held in the United Arab Emirates between April 30 and May 2, in the categories of Leadership and Management Team of the Year, International Strategy of the Year, Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year, Outstanding Support for Students and Technological Innovation of the Year.
CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA
The Awards Asia 2019 winners where Istanbul Gelisim University from Turkey is shortlisted will be determined in the result of evaluation by jury over the specific criteria for every five categories.
Istanbul Gelisim University is shortlisted among the first eight universities in the International Strategy of the Year category for the final. This award will be given to an institution for outstanding success in building institutional partnerships, overseas operations and a strategic approach to international staff and student recruitment. The judges will be looking for evidence of success on financial measures, but most important will be the way in which the strategy has enhanced the profile of the university and delivered on its ambitions, and declare the university winning the Oscar of Higher Education.
Among 80 Asian universities from 21 countries, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) is the finalist in the International Strategy of the Year category. With its European accredited programs, IGU offers its students the opportunity to graduate with diplomas valid in all parts of the world.
“WE HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO OUR COUNTRY AND UNIVERSITY”
Vice Rector of IGU responsible for Quality and Accreditation Prof. Dr. Nail Öztaş stating that Turkey has a clear policy and the objectives to revive its culture, to create value through higher education institutions, export of services, said: “With this policy, universities were given the goal of internationalization. We strive to do our share. For this purpose, we have shown and proved the quality of our education by accrediting 54 programs from European accreditation organizations. This was the first leg of our internationalization strategy. This success has provided corporate legitimacy to a young university such as IGU. With the leadership of Bülent Değirmenci the international student office which we formed from qualified employees, formed the second leg of this strategy. Today we have international students from 56 different countries. In this way, we have made a great contribution to both our country and our university”.
“WE PROVED OUR INTERNATIONALITY”
Referring to Head of YÖK Prof. Dr. Yekta Saraç’s attachment importance given to the internationalization of universities the Chairman of Board of Trustees of IGU Abdulkadir Gayretli said: “We acted with this thought and started serious work. The accreditation of our 54 programs in Europe has proven our quality of education and we have taken great steps to become international. Now we are the finalist in the ‘International Strategy of the Year ’category in the worldly famous THE Awards Asia appraisals known as the Oscar of Higher Education. In this way, we have proved that have become internationalized. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees Member Şule Gayretli and the great Istanbul Gelisim University family for their great efforts.”
