Master Cartoonist Tan Oral's exhibition met with art lovers at IGU

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) hosted the works of Tan Oral, one of Türkiye's leading cartoon artists, and brought art lovers together with a meaningful exhibition. The works reflecting the artist's original lines met with art lovers in the exhibition.

IGU Vice Rector Prof. Arda Öztürkcan, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Şükran Güzin Ilıcak Aydınalp, Vice Deans Assoc. Prof. Murat Doğan and Assoc. Prof. Sezgin Savaş and Art and Design Application and Research Center (SATMER) Director Asst. Prof. Mustafa Günay participated to the exhibition. IGU Faculty of Fine Arts Assoc. Prof. Nuri Sezer was the curator.

Prof. Arda Öztürkcan emphasized that Tan Oral is a valuable name known in Türkiye and the world and has trained many artists and said:
“We are very happy to welcome our esteemed artist Tan Oral here today. He is a name that has inspired many cartoonists and has gained an important place in the international arena. I would like to thank him for giving me the opportunity to exhibit his works at our university. Art is not only an aesthetic concern, but also a narrative; it is a powerful language that conveys the story of history, man, and society in different ways.

As Istanbul Gelisim University, we want to continue the innovation we have achieved in the field of technology and social sciences in the field of art. According to the recently announced SCImago 2025 results, we ranked second among the foundation universities in Turkey in the field of engineering and social sciences. In the field of research, we rank fourth among the foundation universities in Turkey. We continue to work to achieve this success in the field of art.”

The curator of the exhibition Assoc. Prof. Nuri Sezer: Tan Oral has a special place for himself and many artists. He taught us a lot about cartoons and animation during our student years. He has made great contributions to our professional journey. ”
 


“Art is a thing that has to be experienced”

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, master artist Tan Oral emphasized the originality of art and stated that art is not only a technical skill, but also a process that is experienced and felt, with the words "Art is a thing that has to be experienced, learning is something else."


 
While this important event held in the field of art at IGU became a valuable meeting point for students and art lovers, it once again revealed the place and importance of art in society.
