“1st International Dicle Documentary and Short Film Festival has begun!

The first edition of the 1st International Dicle Documentary and Short Film Festival is taking place in Diyarbakır between December 18th and 20th, 2023. Organized by the Cinema Researchers Culture and Art Association (SAD), this festival brings together significant figures from the academic and art worlds.

Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) is among the stakeholders of the 1st International Dicle Documentary and Short Film Festival held on December 18-20. IGU's Rector, Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Arda Öztürkcan, Head of Corporate Communication and Promotion Asst. Prof. Dr. Bülent Değirmenci, and Festival Director Research Assistant Ahmet Bikiç participated in the festival.

The Cinema Researchers Culture and Art Association (SAD) was founded in April 2023 by a strong team of academics dedicated to cinema and with qualified works in the field of cinema. SAD's main goal is to ensure the learning, dissemination, and development of cinema art; to realize the social function of cinema art, to conduct scientific research in the field of cinema; to create a suitable ground for contributing to the solidarity culture of cinema workers; to promote Turkish culture and art abroad; to contribute to the recognition and monitoring of cultural and artistic activities in other countries within Turkey.

The Sineakademi Association announces its primary philosophy as 'creating and supporting cinema projects that raise awareness about societal issues, and contributing to the country's cultural and artistic environment by organizing communication-related activities such as books, academic journals, symposiums, workshops, and film festivals, especially in the field of cinema.' The association's founding president is Associate Professor Dr. Zuhal Akmeşe Demir, the Head of the Radio-TV Cinema Department at Dicle University's Faculty of Communication. The founding members of the association consist of various academics actively engaged in universities across Turkey and involved in works related to the field of cinema.

The 1st International Dicle Documentary and Short Film Festival stands out as the first project realized by the Sineakademi Association. This festival invites participants in the documentary and short film categories to engage in a high-quality competition, bringing together significant figures from the cinema and academic worlds. Among its stakeholders are the Dicle University Rectorate and Istanbul Gelisim University Rectorate. The festival's honorary board includes Diyarbakır Governor Ali İhsan Su, Dicle University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karakoç, Chief Advisor to the Minister of Interior Prof. Dr. Ergün Yolcu, and Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin.

The presidency of the festival is held by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zuhal Akmeşe Demir, the President of the Cinema Researchers Culture and Art Association. The festival coordination is managed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özcan Demir, festival direction by Research Assistant Ahmet Bikiç, art direction by Dr. Sevim Karaalioğlu, festival consultancy by Creative Director Esra Kaya, festival press consultancy by Dr. Fahrünnisa Kazan, festival execution by Research Assistant Esma Sancar and Emre Güler.
 
Bringing together academics from various universities, film directors, and writers on the same platform, the International Dicle Documentary and Short Film Festival presents cinema enthusiasts with a high-quality cultural and artistic showcase by gathering them in Diyarbakır, the heart of Mesopotamia.
