"Masticatory Symposium" was organized by Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Dentistry. Experts in their fields made comprehensive and informative presentations on various topics about chewing.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Dentistry organized its 3rd symposium. The symposium started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. Opening speech was made by Prof. Dr. Mahir Günday, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry. Then, Prof. Dr. Selçuk Sürücü introduced the guests and stated that chewing is one of the most significant issues in dentistry and made a presentation about the "Stages of Chewing".
The symposium consisted of 4 sessions. The following names made presentations on the mentioned topics. Prof. Dr. Selçuk Sürücü: “Anatomy of masticatory muscles”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eser Elemek: “The role of occlusion in periodontal tissues”, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Mihmanlı: “Jaw joint and chewing”, Prof. Dr. Kemal S. Türker: “Neurophysiology of chewing”, Asst. Prof. Dr. Serdar Gözler: “Masticatory function and occlusion”, Prof. Dr. Kemal S. Türker:“Tooth loss and social regression” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinem Yeniyol: “Chewing with dental implants.” The symposium, which was held with the participation of academicians who are experts in their fields, attracted great attention from the students.
