Onur Karakuş, one of the senior students of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, and Melek Çetinkaya, one of the graduates of the 2022-2023 academic year, are working on Samsung Galaxy Ultra Short Film with their short film project named Kuru Gürültü. They became finalists in the competition.
Kuru Gürültü short film project, whose script was adapted from the story of Melek Çetinkaya, a graduate student of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, and directed and written by Onur Karakuş, a senior student, made it to the finals in the Samsung Galaxy Ultra Short Film Competition.
Onur Karakuş, the director of Kuru Gürültü, which is among the ten projects that made it to the finals, will receive training from screenwriter Gülse Birsel within the scope of the competition and, following Birsel's instructions, will shoot another short film using the equipment provided by Samsung Turkey. In the second stage of the competition, the first three winning short films will be awarded.
“Kuru Gürültü was a challenge for us”
Onur Karakuş, director and screenwriter of Kuru Gürültü, said that the idea for the project emerged a long time ago, but remained in the development phase for a while. Karakuş stated that when they came across a location suitable for the story, they brought the team together in a short time and carried out the shooting in a limited time, and stated that the Kuru Gürültü project was a challenge both for him in terms of directing and for Melek Çetinkaya in terms of acting.
Kuru Gürültü tells the story of a young girl who lost her father, who cannot be alone with her emotions, how people who come to the funeral home to offer their condolences are actually there because they have to, and how disturbing all these situations are. Karakuş stated that being able to fit such a layered story into one minute and convey it to the audience as planned was one of the issues that worried the team the most.
Melek Çetinkaya, who plays the leading role in the project adapted from her own story, stated that they had previously produced one-minute short films with the same team and that they had a practice, and that the plot of Kuru Gürültü had a much different dynamic. In this sense, she said that she and the project's director Onur Karakuş eliminated many scenes during the preliminary preparation process, which required very serious work. Stating that being in front of the camera made her very excited, Çetinkaya stated that although she said that the set of Kuru Gürültü was the most difficult set they worked on as a team, she said that they pushed all the conditions and thought they would be rewarded.
