IGU Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin hosted the students in the 61st Library Week

Various activities were organized at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) within the scope of Library Week, which is celebrated in the world and in our country every year. The 10 students who borrowed the most from the IGU Library during 2024 were awarded by Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin.

In the ceremony where students from different departments and grades took part, Prof. Şahin met and chatted with the students one by one and shared his professional experiences. Vice Rector Prof. Nuri Kuruoğlu and Vice Rector Prof. Necmettin Maraşlı also participated and supported the students.
 
During the activity, the managers who took care of the students one-on-one made suggestions about their own academic and professional journeys. Rector Prof. Bahri Şahin said, "Whatever success you achieve in life, do not forget where you came from. Try to contribute to your country and the society in which you were born and raised. Even if you are going to work in other countries, do not forget to transfer your knowledge and experience to our country. You are our future. Read constantly. Keep your mind fresh. Although electronic books are more popular these days, I still prefer the smell of books."


 
After the ceremony, a group photo shoot was held. After the event, on behalf of IGU Head of Library and Documentation Department A. Şenol Armağan invited the students to the library and chatted with them. He also invited the conference to be held online on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 10.00.
 
To the conference titled ''Artificial Intelligence Librarianship in 61st Library Week ”, IGU Former Faculty Member and Turkish-German University Faculty Member Prof. Aykut Arıkan will attend as a speaker. Armağan said, "Prof. Arıkan is one of the most competent people in artificial intelligence in Turkey.

Artificial intelligence affects libraries and librarianship as in every field. It radically changes the way we do business. When we use artificial intelligence, especially in repetitive work, significant time savings will be achieved.”



At the end of the event, Armağan suggested that students benefit from artificial intelligence in studies such as literature review, translation and text editing.
