The university students said "Let's get ready for the earthquake" and became AFAD Volunteers!

The 5.1 magnitude Mudanya-based earthquake yesterday once again raised the questions of "Are we ready for an earthquake?" Recently, "AFAD Volunteer" trainings were carried out for academic-administrative staff and students within the framework of the protocol made by Istanbul Gelisim University with AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency). Istanbul Gelisim University volunteers who successfully passed the exam at the end of the trainings were entitled to receive certificates and "AFAD Volunteer" identity cards.

The earthquake, which occurred in the magnitude of 5.1 and 4.5 at 3-minute intervals off Bursa, Mudanya, created fear in the surrounding provinces, especially in Bursa and Istanbul. Reminding us again that we should be ready for an earthquake, we should take precautions. "Support AFAD Volunteer" trainings of the social responsibility project organized by Lect. Yasemin Kılıç Erdim, from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Head of Construction Department and IGU Disaster and Emergency Club were held between 27 November-1 December 2023. Participants who successfully completed the trainings were ready to take part as a support team in disasters by obtaining their certificates.

They were entitled to receive Istanbul Gelisim University Volunteers Certificate and "AFAD Volunteer" identity card

AFAD Volunteers have the knowledge and skills to support professional teams in disaster and emergency situations such as search and rescue, social assistance, fire, first aid. Volunteers who successfully completed the face-to-face trainings organized by AFAD Provincial Directorates related to the field they want to support were successful in the exam held at the end of the trainings and were entitled to receive Istanbul Gelisim University Volunteers Certificate and "AFAD Volunteer" identity card. In the event of a possible disaster, it became ready to work in the field to provide support to professional teams with the calls of the AFAD Presidency.

In this context, on 27-28 and 29 November, in the IGU G Blok Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar Conference Hall and in Yeşilköy AFAD Training Center on 30 November-1 December following trainings were given by expert trainers;
 
-Disaster awareness,
-Logistics, deployment, security,
- Crime scene management and coordination of building structure systems,
- Entry techniques, evacuation and evacuation types to the wreckage area,
-Ropes and knots,
- Transport techniques for patients and injured and the types of stretchers used,
- Introduction of search and rescue vehicle and search and rescue materials, practical training of search and rescue materials,
- Rescue on upper floors and wells, light search and rescue drill,
-Tent installation,
-First Aid
-Humanitarian Aid
-Psychosocial support training,
-Fire response and extinguishing application.
