Workshop with Japanese Scholars
İstanbul Gelişim University
Date & Time: 14 August 2015, 10.30
Venue: IGU Rectorate Building, Conference Hall
Language: English
Objective
Japan and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and are considered to be the most important major powers in East Asia. In the post-Cold War period, there has been a profound change in relations between the two countries due to both conflicts and cooperation initiatives. Although the historical problems along with recent rivalries over security issues distress the two countries, rapidly developing bilateral economic and social relations continue to enhance their cooperative initiatives. Likewise, Turkey’s close relations with Japan and China have reached to a point where these countries have mutually become strategic partners particularly in the fields of economy, energy and security at the global scale.
This workshop aims to carry out a reflective and evaluative discussion on the bilateral and multilateral relations between Japan, China and Turkey. The workshop therefore addresses political, socio-economic and security issues at a global scale; and aims to have a glance at Japan, China and Turkey’s foreign, trade, energy and security policies, and their key roles in various regional and global collaborations.
In this workshop, both IR scholars and historians will be invited to contribute their works for a common goal to improve the systematic understanding of the complex multilateral relations in the post-Cold War period. More strikingly, this workshop brings Japanese and Turkish scholars together, constituting a great and valuable opportunity to build an academic network and to deliberate on future research collaborations.
